Wetland Delineation

A wetland delineation is process where a wetland specialist visits your site, collects data on plants, soils, and hydrology, and compares that data with the methodology as contained in the US Army Corps of Engineers wetland delineation manual (1987) and as modified by the Regional Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual: Midwest Region (Version 2.0).

A flag is placed at the wetland boundary to indicate where wetland conditions (wetland) exist to one side and they do not exist (upland) on the other.

Mr. Hmieleski is a Senior Professional Wetland Scientist (SPWS-1076, Expires 2025) and Lake County Certified Wetland Specialist (CWS-001, Expires April 2023) and is an experienced wetland delineator. Senior PWS certification awarded for over 20 years of being a Professional Wetland Scientist with the national Society of Wetland Scientists.

Preliminary Wetland Investigations

Preliminary investigations aim to determine whether a wetland exists on the site. Think of it as a "Yes" or "No." Sometimes, a client just wants to know if there will be a wetland present, not so much it's exact size and boundary.

For these, a Certified Wetland Specialist will visit the project site and investigate the presence of wetlands based upon the procedures in accordance with the methodology contained in the 1987 US Army Corps of Engineers wetland delineation manual (as amended, including applicable supplements).

We will estimate wetland boundary if found: We will approximate the boundary on an aerial photograph.

Our Vision.

Wetland work can sometimes be confusing, especially if your project involves multiple areas or complex wetlands. Mix in the various federal, state, or local agencies and a seemingly simple project becomes very complicated.

We like questions and know that only when you completely understand why and how something is needed to be done, will you feel comfortable about the process. So ask away!
